Our Passion for Photography

Meet the Photographer

Henk Jan Pomstra...

Originally from The Netherlands, Henk has lived and worked in China and Hong Kong since 2008. Being interested in photography since childhood, the first steps in photographing and darkroom printing were made in the late 70’s. Medium format and 35mm were the tools used, until digital photography overtook for a while. As an early adopter Henk owned and used a large variety of digital camera systems starting with 1.3Mp and leading up to a 50Mp Hasselblad currently. His real passion is analog, film, photography though with Portraiture as his main specialisation.

Henk’s vision with Pomstra Limited is to preserve the art of Black and White and Color film photography in disciplines that include Portraiture, Landscape and Architecture at the highest possible level. By using predominantly large format 4x5’ and medium format equipment, negatives of the highest quality are created that support large prints with the best possible tonality. Prints can both be made as darkroom, silver gelatin, prints as well as high end gallery quality inkjet prints.

Preparing, taking, developing and printing a large format photo is a time-consuming process that can take up to a whole day, but the result is something incomparable to other methods. This is what sets Pomstra Limited apart from other  offering, the passion for traditional processes that create a timeless high quality end result that lasts for generations.

Meet the Photographer

Mike Epstein...

Mike Epstein AKA Analog Mike’s obsession with photography started in high school with an Olympus XA. A profession in the aviation industry and a love for travel were his early motivators for keeping a camera at his side at all times!

Mike took a path that is familiar to so many of us, buying his first digital camera in 2006, and after 8 years of shooting exclusively digital decided to return to his routes with Analogue photography. The digital process felt sterile and he didn’t enjoy spending time at a computer when he would much rather be exploring the World with a camera in hand. These days he enjoys both formats a great deal but his real passion lies in film photography and printing images in the darkroom. Analogue photography is more tactile requiring an approach that is more physically connected to the subject and the pictures themselves.

The world of Analogue presents endless possibilities for creativity as well as an exploration of the history of photography. Every format of Analog photography interests Mike from half frame cameras all the way to 4x5 large format. The satisfaction of retrieving a freshly developed roll of film from the tank or seeing a beautiful image emerge on paper under the safelight are experiences to be treasured! It’s Mike’s desire to share this exciting hobby with others, producing analog images that inspire!
